Stylish Beach Wear
What to wear on the beach is always a minefield. Do you emulate French Riviera with a black one piece and pearls, or go over the top with nautical trends just because you’re by the sea? Are flip-flops okay for dinner, or should you squeeze your sunburnt feet into something prettier?
The questions are endless, but the all-encompassing answer is, it doesn’t matter. When you’re on holiday, you can make the rules – so long as you still pay homage to the classic fashion rules of flattering fits, age-appropriate wear and good colours.
Now, instead of wondering how high your platform heels can be, you’ll be counting cotton threads to see if your dress is soft enough to protect your sunburn. One of the best things to wear this summer is a loose patterned summer dress – I love this exotic print dress because even if you’re not on the beach yet, you’ll always feel you are, and the print is so unique that you’ll be the envy of all your friends.
Another summer cotton dress I just love is this queen of hearts dress. The quirky print is perfect for showing off a tan, and the black lining gives definition to the shape. The loose linen will let you feel the sea breeze, and it is ideal for throwing on over a bikini.
For something a bit dressier, this strappy chiffon dress is a must-have. The sky blue colour works well with the retro lace patch, and I’ve been dreaming of wearing it with Kate Middleton-style nude courts to show off my growing tan. Wear with delicate jewellery to catch the sunlight sparkling on it, and you’ll be the belle of the ball.
Don’t be afraid to stick on a maxi dress either. There are some really lovely dresses around at the moment, and depending on the fit and colour, a maxi will suit anyone. You don’t have to be ultra thin and tall – if you’re worried you don’t have the body for a maxi, wear something simple and classic. The sky-blue lace dress comes in a high-necked maxi, and this gorgeous evening gown is perfect for any summer party.
